Goed nieuws: Proofpress.ch is weer online
An update from FAG proofpress.ch:
Proofpress.ch has been a personal research and community project I initiated in 2012. I went to visit the archive at FAG Lausanne to research the history and the specifications of all models of FAG proof presses. Then I made a first version of proofpress.ch for printers, designers and studios to find helpful information on their beloved presses and also to connect with other users. Therefore I made the «printing presses in use» census, where people could register their studios and presses. Ten years later, the PHP version of the old website was outdated and in 2024 we had to take it down for maintenance.
Proofpress.ch is coming back to life after that desperately needed security update. It turned out we had to have the whole site reprogrammed. With the fantastic help of André Felipe from add.studio we are back online and the new website really works so much smoother. Thanks André!
We currently have 140 registrations of FAG proof presses from 24 different countries. We really want to break the 150 barrier soon. So please help me spread the word, I am sure we can find more printers, artists and print shops using FAG letterpress proof presses from around the world.
How you can register a press if you don’t have an account yet:
Just go to the website and create a new login. From there you can click on «My Press» and then add a studio and add your presses. Done. And don’t forget to upload an image or two of your FAG press.
How you can reclaim and update your old existing profile:
Just go to the website and create a new login. If your name and email stayed the same, it should automatically connect you with your old profile and your existing press registration. If not: send me an email after you have created your profile and let me know which studio you want me to connect your profile to. Then I can manually connect you to your presses and you should get full access to your old profile.
New «Equipment For Sale» feature on the website:
On the new website, you can sell your FAG related equipment. Just go to «My Press» and add some equipment for sale. Please be aware that equipment for sale will go through a quick screening process by me, just to make sure we only have FAG related equipment online.
One word final about the finances: proofpress.ch has never made any money—though that was never the goal. Running a website, maintaining it, and providing user profiles and a functional interface costs a considerable amount of time, money, and energy. If you have the capacity to support the project financially or technically, please get in touch. I’m not saying no.
