Revival project: Lutetia typeface by Jan van Krimpen

Dear Drukwerk in de Marge-Team,

My name is Lisa Bauer, and I am currently studying in the Master’s programme in Type and Media at the Royal Academy of Arts in The Hague (KABK).

A part of my studies involves a revival project of the typeface Lutetia, which was designed by Jan van Krimpen.

I am currently looking for any materials related to this typeface: specimens, books, texts, or ideally, punches.

I would like to inquire if you possess any materials or documentation concerning the Lutetia typeface in your collection. I would be very grateful for any support you can offer in my research.

Thank you very much for your time and consideration.

    • Meneer Vandewaeter, er wordt hier niets aangeboden! Lisa is op zoek naar meer informatie over het lettertype Lutetia…

  1. Dear Lisa,
The original punches are held in the Joh. Enschede collection at the Noord Hollands Archief in Haarlem. (At least part of) the original drawings of the Lutetia type as well a lot of other early trials (unfortunately only partially catalogued) are held by the Museum van het Boek (Meermanno) in The Hague.

  2. Dear Lisa,

Punches will be very hard to find… But I think the original drawings for Lutetia by Jan van Krimpen are in the collection of Allard Pierson. You should ask Mathieu Lommen (Peter or Erik know where to find him).
